Your examination continues with our trained and experienced staff in our automated testing room. These instruments provide information about your prescription, corneal health, peripheral vision, and general health.

Topcon KR-800PA

This instrument combines the technology of three instruments – an autorefractor, keratometer, and corneal topographer. The autorefractor gives Dr. Davis an objective estimate of your prescription. The keratometer analyzes light reflections from your cornea and determines the curvature of your eye’s surface. These measurements are especially important for Dr. Davis in choosing the proper curve and size for your contact lenses. However, the keratometer measures only a small, limited section of the cornea. Corneal topography provides extremely precise details about surface characteristics of the cornea by analyzing photographic images taken of the way light projected into your eye travels. A computer creates the resulting surface “map” of your eye, with different contours represented by varying colors. The KR-800PA provides the most reliable and accurate corneal analysis by making use of the Infra-red LED placido ring and its sophisticated measurement principle. It includes Topcon’s patented Rotary-Prism technology for quick and precise refraction and keratometry measurements.

Optovue iFusion

The Optovue iFusion combines the iVue OCT system and the iCam fundus camera. The iVue OCT system is a powerful clinical tool that transforms the way Dr. Davis can assess the retina, optic disc, and the cornea. Ocular Coherence Tomography, or OCT, is an advanced diagnostic imaging system that provides invaluable information about ocular health. The Optovue iVue includes retinal mapping with normative comparison as well as trend and change analysis. It is especially important in detecting and monitoring glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and keratoconus. The iCam is a high-performance fundus camera that delivers posterior and anterior segment images with exceptional depth, color and resolution. The iFusion system allows Dr. Davis to easily overlay iVue OCT images onto iCam fundus photos for a full, detailed look at ocular disease.

Oculus Easyfield C

The latest development in ultra-fast, ultra-compact visual field testing technology. Gone are the days of grueling, 30-minute visual field examinations. Now, with the novel SPARK strategy, a full threshold visual field examination is completed in only one and a half minutes per eye. Additionally, the Oculus Easyfield includes the Threshold Noiseless Trend (TNT). The TNT allows for precise evaluation of progression in visual field data. TNT combined with the ultrafast SPARK strategy improves significantly the sensitivity of progression detection in early glaucoma.

iCare TA01i Tonometer

The tonometer provides a quick and easy intraocular pressure measurement without anesthesia or the dreaded “air puff.” A light-weight probe is used to make momentary and gentle contact with the cornea. These specific measurements give Dr. Davis insight on possible diagnosis of glaucoma or other eye diseases.

Vital Signs

The staff at Madelia Optometric is concerned with your overall health, as well. We will check your blood pressure and ask about height and weight. Elevated blood pressure can lead to hypertensive retinopathy (link), and the back of the eye is the only place to directly evaluate your blood vessels.
